The Backup Operation Specialist is responsible for the daily operational tasks of the customer’s Backup environment, including monitoring, policy management, tape management, incident and problem management, and the implementation of changes to the in-scope Backup environment. This resident will provide ongoing recommendations and Best Practices from a technical and operational level to the customer.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand in detail the backup infrastructure of the customer.

Review the backup reports in terms of success and failures on a daily basis

Provide necessary inputs on backup software to enable the backup team to create backup scripts for automation of backup, restore and reporting

Support the backup team to troubleshoot the backup failures and ensure that failed backups are successfully executed

Participate in planning, approval and implementation of approved change management requests related to backup infrastructure

Maintain and update configuration documents related to backup environment

Escalate any critical issues related to backup software and coordinate with the EMC’s support team towards resolution of the issues

Identify potential issues in the backup environment in terms of configuration, functionality, performance and provide recommendations to the customer for approval

Coordinate with backup team to implement the approved recommendations to address the potential issues

Coordinate with backup team and the backup infrastructure hardware and software vendors (including Server, Operating system, backup software, Tape Library / Virtual Tape Library, Network Switches, SAN switches) to perform Root Cause Analysis of critical/Severity 1 issues related to backup

SKILLS

Strong consultative skills

Cross-Functional skill

Proficiency in EMC Networker software and/or operating systems environments

Knowledge of job associated programming and scripting languages

Possesses strong product/technology/industry knowledge

EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
5+ years in a storage / technology operations environment
