UNIX / Sybase Administrator

On behalf of our client, the asset management arm of a prestigious global financial institution, we are seeking strong candidates for the position of UNIX / Sybase Administrator.

This is a dual-role position whereby the incumbent will serve both as the UNIX Administrator and the Sybase Database Administrator of this financial institution.

UNIX Administration

Install, configure and maintain the corporate build of UNIX OS, and to install/test software to ensure reliability of bank systems;

Provide hands-on support, as well as to manage lower level support teams;

Provide design recommendations, research and development using best practices and to ensure compliance with IT policies, standards and guidelines;

Makes effective and timely decisions in alignment with departmental direction based on sound business knowledge;

Sybase Administration

Work with IT Architects and senior Application Developers on database design;

Develops and executes database implementation and upgrades;

Performs database performance monitoring and analysis to fully optimise the database;

Produces technical documentation related to databases.

University degree in Information Technology or a similar discipline;

At least six years experience in engineering complex mid to large scale UNIX environments, combined with simultaneous experience in managing Sybase database systems;

Strong communication and presentation skills to liaise with personnel of all levels;
