 JOB DESCRIPTION:The Implementation Engineer will implement technical solutions as designed and sold to customers. They will create configurations according to Technical standards, configure and test network equipment, provide assistance for installations and help resolve technical issues arising during implementation. The engineer will work closely with the Solution Engineer's to implement certain types of changes and with the Provisioning Coordinators to ensure smooth delivery of site installations.
Duties:
- Creating configurations, equipment builds, testing; as specified in the customer or internal change request
- Ensuring that all data is updated, complete and accurate within Vanco systems, in order to maintain data integrity of operational and administrative support databases
- Liaising with customers to clarify technical details and provide the customer updates regarding their implementation or change requests
- Updating of network management systems
- Completion of customer change requests, meeting change request Service Commitment Dates and Service Level Agreements in line with the type of change requests.
- Ensure all Time Management System is updated with work completed to allow for accurate billing
- Updates trouble ticket management system for all trouble reports.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience that demonstrates progressively responsible technical assignments in support of telecommunications/information systems, access or transport is required.
- The position requires a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong technical skills demonstrated through employment with a telecommunications service provider or an electronics systems equipment manufacturer. Technical understanding and experience with Telecommunications technology, WAN solutions, IP/VPN, routing protocols and Cisco routing and switching hardware platforms
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required. Must have the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, complex environment.
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment is essential.
- Must be fully competent with PC's and standard software packages MS-Word, Excel, Access, MS-Project and PowerPoint. Experience with LANs, and the UNIX operating system would be an asset.
TECHNICAL
- 3+ years Technical experience and/or technical support experience required
- 2+ years experience with Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP and/or UNIX (Solaris, Linux) Operating Systems, and DNS required
- WAN Experience - Important
- Experience with Remedy, Voyence, SMARTS beneficial
- 3+ years experience in network environments including security products (Firewalls, VPN) and WAN Technologies such as Frame-Relay, ATM and LAN Switching. (LAN is a nice to have)
- 3+ years experience in network implementation/management environments.
- Understanding and knowledge of Firewall technologies:
- Netscreen, Cisco, Check Point, other(s)
- Understanding of IP Routing protocols: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF
- Experience with LAN/WAN operations and architectures.
- Cisco Experience One or more of the following certifications or related experience desired:
- CCNA – Must have
- CCNP – Nice to have
- MCSE
- Scripting / coding abilities a plus (not required): C, Perl, VB
- UNIX abilities a definite plus: FreeBSD, Linux
