JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position summaryFor a client of ours, a pre-eminent global IT outsourcing firm, we are looking for several customer-facing Directors of Enterprise Architecture, reporting to the Vice President of IT and Telecommunications Architecture. The Directors will be responsible for:
 

  • Architecting and articulating customer-specific enterprise-wide technology solutions in a compelling way, thus determining the future overall architecture of our client’s customers (~70% weighting) 

  • Developing a perspective on how new technological developments or supply market trends can be leveraged for increased business value (~15% weighting) 

  • Advising our client’s internal technical team in their design and implementation of a standardized, harmonized, future-proof roadmap and architecture (~15% weighting) 

  • Candidates can be located in proximity to a major airport in the US (EST and CST time zones only), Canada, UK, BeNeLux, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy or Spain. 40-70% travel is required, depending on candidate’s geography, mostly limited to daytrips in the candidate’s home region. 
    Fluency in one of the major European languages is a plus.

     Position core responsibilities
    There are three core areas of responsibility:  
    Deal support / customer-specific solution architecture (~70% weighting):  

  • Assist the client sales force on select critical deals by crafting and presenting customer-specific solution architectures  

  • Support customer roadmap planning discussions. Articulate the benefits to customers of migrating to common, standardized platforms 

  • Be a thought leader and trusted advisor to enterprise CIOs, CTOs, VPs of Infrastructure, VPs of Applications, CISOs, enterprise architects and IT strategists  

  • Provide consistency to how solutions from individual domains are presented to customers in a holistic business-oriented fashion  

  • Provide an end-to-end, solutions-oriented, creative, innovative, forward-thinking approach to enterprise technology architecture & design 

  • Technology market intelligence (~15% weighting):  
    Effective deal support is enabled by a fresh, up-to-date, forward thinking perspective on key trends shaping technology. This will require the Director to… 

  • Identify and evaluate emerging technology trends and supply market developments. Provide prescriptive advice to the client sales force and the client’s customers on how these trends and developments will affect business processes and enterprise IT and communications environments  

  • Provide a channel for this market intelligence into the internal architecture and technical teams 

  • Internal technology roadmap (~15% weighting):  

  • Influence the client’s technology roadmap by working in conjunction with existing architects in their respective functional silos  

  • Articulate customer and economic requirements for different IT and communications services  

  • Help the functional architects to evaluate technology and supplier alternatives against cost/capability/risk/service level requirements  

  • Contribute towards standardizing, harmonizing, consolidating the overall technology roadmap, with the aim of increasing agility, lowering costs and risk  

  • Provide customer requirements and market intelligence into the IT investment committee and IT governance/operating model/standards committee 
  • Primary organizational interfaces

  • Enterprise customers notably at the CIO, CTO, VP of Infrastructure, VP of Applications, CISO, enterprise architects and IT strategist level  

  • Sales / key account management at our client 

  • Architects in functional IT services delivery domains at our client 

  •  Position objectives
    Success in this role will be measured along the following criteria, in descending order: 

  • Satisfaction of key account management on deals where the Director is involved, thus contributing indirectly towards deal win rates, deal sizes, deal profitability 

  • Influencing the development of technology roadmaps in the respective silos / domains that are consistent, compatible with evolving market requirements, and leverage ongoing innovation 

  • Contributing towards increasing the percentage of solution components deployed that are standard vs. custom 

  • Establishing and leading knowledge-based communities across important architectural themes 

  • Increasing external visibility as a thought leader and trusted advisor on industry-shaping ICT trends 



  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Successful candidates will possess the following required competencies, skills and experience:

  • Ability to be a credible, compelling and articulate thought partner to enterprise customers and prospects, notably at the CIO, CTO, VP of Infrastructure, VP of Applications, CISO, enterprise architects and IT strategist level, covering cross-enterprise IT strategy, IT architecture and IT roadmap topics

  • The Directors of Architecture should be generalists first and foremost, with an ability to knowledgeably bridge different technology silos as well as business, organizational and process issues relevant to technology

  • However, they should also have sufficient depth and hands-on experience in at least one domain (e.g., virtualization, storage, networking, security, business applications, mobility, end points) to be credible with best-in-class customer subject matter experts

  • 10-15 years of technical experience at a relevant vendor or large enterprise, of which at least 3-5 years on the enterprise side, ideally as the chief architect, IT strategist or chief technology officer. Successful candidates might also come from business technology consulting backgrounds (e.g., Accenture, McKinsey BTO) or from other outsourcing or service providers

  • Successful candidates will possess the following desired competencies, skills and experience:

  • Fluency in a major European language, notably French, German, Spanish, Italian (not relevant for US based candidates), in addition to English

  • Some evidence of thought leadership (e.g., publications, blogs, conferences)

  • Technical certifications in more than one domain
